There is a dress shop up the street from my apartment. I've never been inside, but it's got a pretty big selection of very nice (and HIDEOUS) formal dresses, including a small selection of wedding gowns. A few months ago, they had a dress that looked similar to my specs, only it was in pink rather than blue. Well, yesterday as I walked home from the T, I glanced in the window and saw what may be the closest thing to my ideal dress as I can get.
The embroidery is way lighter than I would like (I'd prefer green, but dark blue would be okay too), I'm not crazy about a white dress (I'd prefer cream/ivory), and I'd like straps of some sort. Plus, because I didn't go in, I don't know if there is a train or not. BUT, I now have an okay picture to bring in once I do start actually looking for the dress. I'm actually not tempted to go try it on because I know that I need to wait until I have a little more money and time to do the search right.

BEAUTIFUL!!!
ReplyDeleteIs it worth having a conversation with the shop owner just to find out the manufacturer, style code, etc? It might be good info to have when you start looking for real. In case you can't find something similar a year from now, you can track down the designer that made this one and see what options they still have in their catalog. A lot of the changes your looking for are easy to deal with and might simply be a matter of ordering a slightly different style that isn't hanging in the window.
I only say this cause in ALL of the hunting I did for our marriage (rings, dress, etc) it went exactly like this:
Oh, these rings are fantastic!!! But they're the first ones we've seen, so let's go to jeweler's row in Philly to see what our other options are... later... let's go back and get those rings from the first place.
My dress was the same story.
That's an idea--I can go in to "try it on" and jot down information from either the dress tags or the shopkeeper.
