Our Castle

June 11, 2013 is a day that will live in infamy...wait, that's not right...

June 11, 2013 will forever be the day we officially became homo-wners (see what I did there?). The house and yard are both large and quirky, offering us a lifetime of projects. From 10-ish year old wallpaper in most rooms to DIY-projects that were not quite 100% done to a yard covered in trees and garden beds that haven't been tended properly in a couple years, we definitely have our work cut out for us.

We didn't move into what we would necessarily call a "fixer-upper" since there is not one thing we HAVE to do at this point, but we did move into a house that needs a face and breast and butt and tummy lift. Not just because the house is 61 years old (older than my parents!), but because we want to make it OURS.

In light of that, Here's a checklist of things we want to do (this does NOT include furniture/accessories), in no particular order:

  • All the rooms need blinds and curtains; many rooms need the hardware to hang said blinds & curtains
  • Every bit of the house, inside and out, needs to be cleaned and de-spiderwebbed due to standing empty for about 3 weeks
  • Master Bedroom: de-wallpaper, paint, fix trim, install ceiling fan
  • Hobbit Hole (future nursery/kid's room): remove appliques, wash walls, prime, paint, fix trim, install ceiling fan
  • Red Room: turn into a walk-in closet CLOSE ENOUGH!!
  • Kitchen: complete renovation (in the interim, we will install shelves and cover the cabinet floors)
  • Dining Room: de-wallpaper, maybe remove wainscot?, fix trim/crown molding, install ceiling fan
  • Living Room: de-wallpaper, frame out fireplace, paint, fix trim/crown molding
  • Guest Room: de-wallpaper, paint, fix trim, install ceiling light & fan
  • Upper Bath: de-wallpaper, fix up the sink area (long-term goal-complete reno)
  • Craft Room: paint, fix trim
  • Laundry Room: install more lights
  • Den: paint
  • Downstairs Bath: remove carpet, complete renovation
  • Porch: paint
  • Pantry: new floor
  • Install central A/C
  • Fix/replace gutters
  • Patch/paint eaves
  • Install a deck (and hot tub?)
  • Trim plants around the driveway light/clean & repair light
  • Clean & weed garden beds around house
  • Limb up/remove various trees
  • Build raised veggie beds
  • Remove & replace shed
  • Widen the driveway/pave
That all doesn't seem like much, right?

  1. You two have quite the list but I know you'll get it done! Can't wait to start seeing the big results over time!
