The dresses that are close to what I want are only available online, and I can't take the chance of buying one and having to do major alterations or worse, the color being wrong. And I'm not sure I'll be able to afford something custom. Hence the title indicating stress. I also don't want to buy the dress too early because I know that if I do, I'll lose at least a dress size. But if I don't, I'll stay about the same, because that is how my life works. :D

i bought my dress only 3 months before the wedding and still lost at least a size - stress does that no matter what - but i would definitely go to your local david's and maybe some other shops and see what they have in stock and work from there
ReplyDeleteI feel your stress.
ReplyDeleteHere are a couple of options that are affordable(ish), under $1k, and look similar to what you want.
Castella Bridal Gown: http://www.siriinc.com/bg-5797.html
Marilyn Bridal Gown: http://www.siriinc.com/bg-9492.html
Palazzo Wedding Gown: http://www.siriinc.com/bg-5890.html
Satin A-line Halter with Split Front: http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Satin-A-line-Halter-with-Split-Front-T9218
I hope that helps. I've been dress browsing like it is my job, since it is the only thing I can do until I am stateside again.
Thanks for the confirmation of my fear Jaz. I wish I could be lucky enough to find one at David's...but I've been in the store (Ellie is in her brother's wedding) and online...nada.
ReplyDeleteAmy, thanks for the links, I'm going to be saving a couple for ideas (alas, not enough color on any of them...I am way too picky for my own good!
I know absoultely nothing about custom dresses, but maybe look into it. Bring pictures of what you want and color swatches and get prices...you have time, so why not see what you can do. I wouldn't want to buy a dress online either. The dresses in your links are BEAUTIFUL!

Honeslty, your specifications sound more like you are lookng for a formal gown than wedding dress. Go in a different direction...look at for full length homecoming, prom, or party dress (i.e. http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Long-Chiffon-Beaded-Waist-Dress-2537_Special-Occasions-Shop-By-...-Length-Long ). I think this dress would look amazing on you! There is no train, and there is a good change that you can have the beaded bodice and sash dyed clover or blue. And it's less than $200!
ReplyDeleteCarrie, you are a genius! I will stay looking into them one prom season comes around (this Homecoming season is a little too early).
ReplyDeleteAnd Heidi, thanks for the ideas, I may be able to buy a dress & get it customized, which would be cheaper I imagine.
